Next Band Rehearsal

We are looking for new Members,
to increase the size of our Band.

We are also looking for more dancers
to join our "Glitter Genies"

These dancers rehearse whilst the band rehearses,
so the option of doing both is also there.
The Band supplies suitable costumes
and training to dance Samba style.

at West Wight Youth Centre
Every Saturday 10:00 to 12:30
Help make Carnival Costumes
ready for the May jouvay Parade.
All materials provided, no experience needed.
Starts on Saturday 27th February.

NB The CLC Ryde equivalent
has been cancelled - lack of numbers.
As far as we know, the West Wight one is still on.

There are 3 choices of workshop:
Henna Tattooing, 11am – 1pm or 1pm – 3pm
Nail Art, 11am – 1pm
Hair Wrapping, 1pm – 3pm

The cost is only £4 (£2 concessions) per workshop
and are open to all women and girls over 8 years of age
(no unaccompanied children under 12)

Hey Sambistas
Samba Galêz are preparing to host the 4th Welsh Encontro
on the bank holiday weekend of May 1st-3rd 2010
and in doing so celebrate their 20th birthday.

The weekend begins on Saturday 1st
with a variety of dance, singing and percussion workshops
led by some of the UK's most respected leaders
and catering for a range of skill levels.
In the evening we will be hosting an informal social gathering
to give you the chance to catch up
with Sambistas from all over the country.

On Sunday 2nd there will be more workshops
as well as opportunities for bands to busk in Cardiff bay
or the city centre.
On the Sunday evening
we're holding the big showcase event at the Coal Exchange
with performances by some great samba
and other-style bands, aiming to create
the tremendous and exciting atmosphere of last time.

Bank holiday Monday (3rd)
is our big finale with opportunities for individual bands
to busk in Cardiff Bay, culminating in a giant Sambadrome,
where we will all come together
in Cardiff Bay’s oval basin to play together
and create a samba spectacle to entertain the public.

Excellent accommodation is available in
the Urdd Centre in Cardiff Bay
which will again be the centre for the weekend
all the workshops will be held at the Urdd Centre,
making it an ideal place to stay.
The bed spaces sold out within a few weeks last time
so you'll need to book fast
